Uchiwa wall lamps

Uchiwa was created in 1973 by Ingo Maurer as a Japanese wall lamp. Inspired by the art of fan making, between 1973 and 1975 he made various lamps from Japanese fans (called Uchiwa in Japanese). These are traditionally made of paper and bamboo. This was the first time that an “objet trouvé” inspired his design of a lamp and was later integrated into his work. The particular warm light produced by the lamps creates a cosy atmosphere.

The examples shown here are absolute collector’s items. The red electric cords are a lovely highlight to set against any wall. A rocker switch on the light socket turns the lamp on and off.
